Apple’s previously rumored slimmer version of MacBook pro may already be in production. Digitimes reported that 13-inch and 15-inch models are in production for initial shipments of 100,000 to 150,000 units, there is no indication of a 17-inch model though. Monthly shipments will eventually climb to 900,000 units from the initial 100,000 to 150,000 units.
There is currently no info on its specifications but reportedly it would have higher specs than a MacBook Air in terms of CPU power and storage capacity, optical drive has been removed to slim it down. The new MacBook Pro might launch at the same time as other brands launch their Ivy Bridge ultrabooks. Sources say that the delay in Ivy Bridge chips could have worked in favor of Apple as it was rumored earlier the MacBook Pro will launch after other companies launch their ultrabooks.
